We hope you had a chance to check out our Fall Family Bucket List in last week’s post.  We love soaking up the last few moments of outdoor weather when fall comes and enjoying time with family.

Our time spent with our family has taken on a whole new meaning since March 2020.  With every change that COVID-19 brought on, I’m sure many of us can agree that the opportunity to slow down and spend more time with family has been one of its benefits.  That’s one thing, for sure, I am hoping to continue.  Before COVID-19 came on the scene, we had already made it a point to do fun family things, but like many of you, we had busy, hectic schedules.  Tyrece would be traveling for work during the week, while we both juggled the boys’ sports practices during the week and games on the weekends.  Then there were the family gatherings, kids’ birthday parties, and many other miscellaneous events that filled up our calendars, especially on the weekends.  Now, I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t truly miss the social gatherings and connecting with family and friends, but I absolutely do not miss the hustle and bustle of our previous family life.  Being forced to slow down and create fun as a unit has been an exciting time for our family.

Whether your family is still socially distancing or you’ve begun to socialize with others and gather more, we’ve got a list of family tips and ideas that have kept us connected and will continue bringing the fun to our home.

Allow choice

  • Allow your kids to put select activities for the “wheel of choice”.  Spin the wheel each week to see what the weekend activity will be.
  • Assign one family member to each weekend of the month.  Allow that family member to select the festivities for the weekend.

Schedule themes

  • Put weekly themed meals on the calendar (pizza night, breakfast for dinner night, taco night, etc).
  • Bonus points for connecting an activity to theme.

Invite competition

  • Find a Breakout Box activity to challenge your family to complete together.
  • Include game nights with board games, card games, or even video games if everyone can play (Mario Kart, anyone?)
  • Add trivia questions to your after dinner convo.

Keep it simple

  • A good movie night is always a winner in our book.
    • Bonus points for adding snack baskets!
  • Choose a family friendly book to read together and maybe even act out if you’re feeling bold!

Be creative

  • Enjoy a night of “Cookies and Canvas” where you eat treats and paint together.
  • Build and decorate picture frames to hold your family fun pics in.

We’d love to see what else you’ve got!  Create your own list and post pics.
