It’s Our Anniversary (cue the music)!

Did the song by Tony! Toni! Tone! just play in your mind or was it just us?  September marks our 10 year wedding anniversary and if you would have told us then what we would have endured along the way, we would not have believed you for a second.  We are not marriage experts, by any means, but with the help of the Lord, we’ve made it 10 years!  As we reflect on our marriage together, we can’t help but to highlight some of the lessons that have helped us reach this moment.  We are happy to share our journey with you and hope that we can inspire you all to keep pushing!

10 years of marriage has taught us these 10 things (and so much more):

  1. Marriage is an Investment

Make date nights a priority from the very beginning.

  1. Establish Your Foundation

Pray for one another.  Support each other.  Pray together.  Laugh together.  Build together.

  1.  Expect the Unexpected

Life is full of ups and downs!  Curve balls will be thrown!

  1.  Communication is Key

Be clear about what you need and how you are feeling, but do not make your spouse the source of your happiness.

  1.  Money Matters

Make getting out of debt a priority and always have an emergency fund.  Emergencies are a thing!

  1.  Vacations Matter

Enough said.

  1.  Self-care is a Worthy Sacrifice

Your individual wellness only adds to the quality of your marriage.

  1.  Cultivate your Relationship

See tips from our Relationship Care blog post!  You won’t regret it!

  1.  Apologize and Compromise

Two things to remember– 1.  It isn’t always important to be right and 2.  Saying “I’m sorry” has its rewards! (Woo! This one is hard!)

  1.  Grow Through Conflict

Do not avoid difficult conversations or difficult questions.  These are designed to strengthen the foundation you’ve laid together.

BONUS TIP for Good Measure:  Make sure the person you marry is the person you can go through life’s journey with.  It’s a crazy ride, and you’ll need the person God designed as your running mate to go the whole way through.
